Have we met?
Freelance writer, mom blogger, pop culture lover.
I’m Amy, a former reality television producer and advertising executive finally living the dream of writing barefoot while raising my daughters and occasionally feeding my very understanding husband. You might know me from my freelance work, which appears regularly at places like The Huffington Post, mom.me, Momtastic and PopSugar. A few of my posts went viral – in a non-germy way – including “40 Effed Up Things about Being 40” and “You’ll Always Be My First.” Once upon a time, I studied English literature at the University of Pennsylvania and I still love books, especially in paper form. I force my kids to listen to 80s music. I will never give up pasta.

Prepping My Daughter For Baby Sister’s Arrival
With just six weeks to go until my due date, I'm feeling ready for baby #2 - but is my daughter? Doubtful. She's had me all to herself for four years, and now she's going to have to share me with a tiny poop machine who can't even sit up, much less join us for Zoo...
The Bizarre Reason Cops Busted Up My Maternity Photoshoot
If you’ve read any of my past pregnancy posts, you know I’m not one to glorify being knocked up. Beleaguered by symptoms, I usually come off more gripey than grateful. But despite the puking, heartburn, shortness of breath, and lately some pretty profound Braxton...
If Sleep Training Works, Why Doesn’t It Stick?
I did not want to sleep train my baby. I couldn’t bear to hear her cry for 10 seconds, never mind 10 minutes. When my pediatrician casually suggested that I let her “cry it out,” I was so angry, I temporarily switched pediatricians. That was at four months old. By...
Nighttime in the Third Trimester
I’m 32 weeks pregnant and exhausted. Bone tired, knackered, stumbling around like a drunken Zombie, making no sense, donezo, pooped. I could blame the bowling ball under my shirt, my high-energy preschooler or a woeful lack of caffeine, but the biggest reason I’m...
What’s With all the Play Date Hate?
It’s popular in the blogosphere these days to hate on play dates – you know, those double dates between moms and kids, which, depending on your personality, are either super awkward or total lifesavers. I fall into the second camp. Here’s why. When my four-year-old...
Kids’ Extracurriculars: Expectations vs. Reality
Why do we enroll our little kids in extracurricular activities? I mean, seriously, why? My daughter’s only four, so it’s not about padding her college applications. And there’s certainly no pressure coming from my kid, who’d be just as happy digging in the dirt all...
