Have we met?
Freelance writer, mom blogger, pop culture lover.
I’m Amy, a former reality television producer and advertising executive finally living the dream of writing barefoot while raising my daughters and occasionally feeding my very understanding husband. You might know me from my freelance work, which appears regularly at places like The Huffington Post, mom.me, Momtastic and PopSugar. A few of my posts went viral – in a non-germy way – including “40 Effed Up Things about Being 40” and “You’ll Always Be My First.” Once upon a time, I studied English literature at the University of Pennsylvania and I still love books, especially in paper form. I force my kids to listen to 80s music. I will never give up pasta.

Kid Carnivore
My daughter, the great eater, loves chicken – grilled chicken, roasted chicken, chicken enchiladas, chicken dumplings, you name it. One hitch: when it comes to making chicken – I’m chicken. I became a vegetarian at 7 when I suddenly realized that those cute, mouthy...
I’m Okay!
First, thanks for all the love and support around my weaning crisis. It helped a lot. I've officially stopped breastfeeding and I have to say it was probably harder on me (and Dave, who had to put up with me) than on Viv. She is still getting used to the new...
The Heartbreak of Weaning
I just breastfed my daughter for the last time, and my heart is breaking. We had a good run – 15 months – but I wasn’t quite ready to stop, and I’m not sure she was either. Later this week, I’ll begin injecting myself with fertility drugs, which apparently are the...
Happy Meals
Every time my daughter and I go out to eat, we leave behind a disaster area. I haven't had the balls to photograph the crime scene yet (too busy running out the door of the restaurant, shielding my face) so just imagine if the food fight in Animal House took place in...
It’s a Girl!
At Viv’s 15-month check-up today, our pediatrician confirmed something about our child that we’ve suspected for a long time: She’s a girl. Running down a developmental checklist, the doctor nodded approvingly as I listed words Viv knows. “Animal sounds?” Yes. “Body...
Eggs and Beer
We're trying to get pregnant and my lady cycle's been kind of wonky so we decided to pay a visit to our friendly neighborhood reproductive endocrinologist, Dr. Rosenpenis. Not his real name or face. If only. Dave and I had assumed that conceiving a second child would...
